Creative SEO Ideas!

Thinking Outside the Box
Every SEO Professional must be in touch with society and the current trends to stay on top of the game. This can be a difficult thing to do since most people in the SEO industry are let’s call them “Computer Guru’s.” Most Computer Guru’s are usually not in touch with reality and current events. Keeping up with the new trends allows you to focus in on new ways to target visitors to your website.

But How?
There are many ways that help you tap into the minds of pop culture some ways that I like are reading other peoples Blogs, or watching Current TV.

I like to watch Current TV to give me ideas about what is going on in the world because it gives me different views other than what is presented in the mainstream media day after day. Current also features “Google Current” every half hour which tells you what people are searching for and why they are searching for it. It’s kind of like a window into whats happening in the world.

These 2 simple steps are ways that anyone can easily tap into the hearts and minds of what the world is feeling.

But Why?Well if you know what is on people’s minds then you can create targeted content to drive traffic to your website. Remember Link Bait!

Aaron Wall’s mentions on his blog the importance of Current events. He suggest creating a flash cartoon game featuring Dick Cheney shooting people on it as a way to build links in a viral way.

Bottom line is you need to think outside the box to be a better SEO.

Good Luck,

What You Need To Know About Local Search

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

Not all business owners need an optimized website. Most companies that sell a local service usually do not fit the profile for website optimization. For example my local hairdresser could care less if her salon was listed in Google. But, with the changing scope of the Internet being everywhere, my hairdresser would like her name to come up when someone types in Lafayette Hair Salon into their mobile phone. Local search is a perfect fit for her type of business.

Local Search is one of the untapped markets in Search Engine Optimization. Every website should be optimized for local search now to be prepared for the future of search. As more and more people start to use mobile devices to surf the Internet the need for having a local listing is a must.

Why?
For starters 60% of Comit Technologies customers see most of their leads come from people searching “THEIR CITY + KEYWORD” Wouldn’t it be wise to have your website come up when someone types in Lafayette Search Engine Optimization?

But How?
Well most search engines have their own local search registration where anyone can go and register their business and provide their address, but who has the time to go through this process. The easiest way to get picked up in the local searches is to put your physical address on every webpage of your site. This simple technique not only tell the search engine where you are but, it increases your local search relevancy since your city/state is plastered on multiple pages.

Once you have added your address to every page you need to verify that the search engines know your location. To do this I recommend using the Auto link function in the Google Toolbar. Another way would be to ask your local yellow pages to ensure that they are linking to your website. Yellow Pages have always been an industry leader when it comes to local search.

Link Baiting the Link Baiters

Monday, May 22nd, 2006

One of my weekly reads is Brian Clark’s Copyblogger website. Brian recently published a free 30 page PDF report on Link Baiting.
Isn’t it ironic how people are now link baiting with link baiting reports! Anyway It was an easy read and I found it useful so I hope you enjoy it.

Perks of SEO

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

One of my mentors John Alexander taught me that your #1 goal of doing any SEO work is to truly want your clients to succeed. The success of our clients will bring you more new clients than any other form of advertising. Word of mouth advertising, as he put it, has the highest conversions and is the most effective business model for any industry and when your clients succeed they remember who got them there.

I have never forgotten this saying and I find it to be truer than ever. My goal as an SEO is to work hard for my clients. When I began working in the SEO industry the reputation was blackened by the thousands of so called SEO’s who are nothing more than submitter spammers. Starting out I found it hard to distinguish my business form these Ponzi Schemes. Every time I went on a sales call it seemed like I got the response that “You do that too!” Over time I have learned that nothing in the world is as satisfying as watching your clients succeed and that has lead to more word of mouth advertising.

I spent the last weekend with one of my clients on a hunting trip in South Louisiana. Since he became a client we have become great friends as we have watched his business grow from a start-up to a major contender in his industry. You see SEO is more than a service it is a commitment to a business and that commitment builds relationships. My client wanted to reward me for our hard work so he took me hunting on his property for some wild hogs. That alone would have been a great thank you for my efforts but my client had more in mind.

This client is a manufacturer of a high protien deer attractants. As part of their promotional efforts they film a television show called “Giant Whitetails” on the Outdoor Channel, Men’s Channel and several other national channels. To help showcase their newest lineup of hog attractant products I was invited to have the hunt of a lifetime and to be filmed and featured on their show. The experience was amazing and I could have never imagined all the work that goes into filming a hunting show.

Hard work and the right attitude is the right approach to SEO. Keeping your clients priorities is the most effective way to grow your SEO business. The happier your clients become the more rewarding your work.
