Does PageRank Mean Anything Anymore?
Google PageRank is a formula that Google’s founder Larry Paige invented to determine the relevancy of websites. The thinking is that if more people link to a particular website, that website is important. The more people that linked to your site the higher your
PageRank went and the higher your search results were in theory. For years PageRank has been the primary way to gauge your SEO results.
Does PageRank still matter?
The original concept of PageRank was flawed and has been changed numerous times throughout the years to include factors like link relevancy, context, neighborhood, etc. What happened was too many people built artificial links to their website to manipulate the PageRank that Google had to change their formulas for ranking people.
Today Google still has an assigned PageRank value for most websites, but it means very little for SEO. If you are building your website it is more beneficial to build legitimate links and text than to try to manipulate your sites PageRank.
