Building Links with Link Bait
“Link Bait” is a new term to the search engine marketing industry. Aron Wall with SEO Book created the term and it is an effective marketing tool that every site owner needs to consider.
Link Bait is the art of creating useful information for the purpose of gaining links to your website. For years SEO experts have talked about creating useful content to build links, but they were typically referring to useful content that was related to your core business. With the link baiting approach the new strategy is to create something useful no matter what the topic is to build links.
Take Paul English as a perfect example. Paul created the IVR Cheat Sheet on his website. Paul is an ordinary blogger who was looking for a way to promote his site. He decided to publish a list of ways around every major companies automated telephone nightmare and has attracted a tidal wave of links because of this useful information. Paul’s blog now has thousands of links pointing to his site and has boosted his PageRank through the roof.
Link Bait ideas can range from free screen savers to flash games. There is no limit to the creative ways to help build traffic to your website. My task for you is to sit down for 15 min. and think of ways to start a viral link bait campaign on your website. Chances are you will have enough ides to keep you busy for the next few days.
Good Luck,

One of the biggest surprises is that they may be looking into Click Tracking to determine a pages popularity. Click tracking is the monitoring of which links are clicked on in the Search Engine Results Page(SERPS). If your site is ranked #1 for your keyword Widgets and people usually click on one of your competitors links in the SERPS then your competitor will eventually rank higher than you. They may also be analyzing how long your visitors are staying on your pages or the stickiness of your website. This is important because it emphasizes the need for a clean website with relevant and usable content. If people are turned off of your website which ranks #1 for Widgets and click the back button then click on your competitors website then guess what, Google will eventually lower your SERP ranking.
